Ani lidodi vidodi li

The first letters of the words Ani lidodi vidodi li are an acrostic for the word Elul. Elsewhere in Shir HaShirim it is said, ani yisheina vilibi er, I am asleep and my heart is awake. Rav Shlomo Freifeld said that if my “ani,” i.e. my ego is asleep, then my heart can be awake. Perhaps this idea can be applied to the verse Ani lidodi vidodi li. If my ego is subservient to my Beloved, and that is HaShem, then my Beloved is too me. HaShem only rests His spirit on those who are humble.
