Yom Kippur is one

Here’s what someone shared with me today. Atone is at one, so in a sense Yom Kippur is when we become one with HaShem. It is interesting to note that in the Torah Yom Kippur is referred to as achas bashanah, once a year, and the Medrash (Bereishis Rabbah 2:3) states on the passuk vayehi erev vayehi voker yom echod, that yom echod refers to Yom Kippur.

Sruly was talking about the Torah you post online. came acroos your post about atonement. i once put it this way."This is an appropriate time to post an interesting observation. Yom kipper is called the Day of Atonement. What does Atonement mean?A standard synonym is reconciliation. What is the etymology of the word atone?Make two words from the word.Atone = At OneOxford writes that atonement is "at -one-ment " "to be at one with the lord "This is not the true translation of the word Kippur which is ,to cleanse or wash, yet the sentiment is clear.Sin creates distance in a relationship . Atonement is our opportunity to reestablish the bond ,to get back together!. You get the point."
